The academy is internationally known for its academic excellence and offers advanced education in investigations, management and fitness training for selected officers having proven records as professionals within their agencies.

On average, the officers have 19 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.

Those areas were leadership in law enforcement, leadership in counterterrorism, police involved shootings, managing and investigation, police/media relations, interpersonal communication strategies and fitness in law enforcement.

Lieutenant Jones is 21-year veteran of the Indiana State Police Department, having graduated from the ISP Recruit School in 1989. Lieutenant Jones initially served as a road patrol trooper. He was first promoted in 2001 to the rank of sergeant and again in 2004 as first sergeant, assistant commander of the former Terre Haute District.

Then in 2008, Jones was promoted to lieutenant and transferred to the Putnamville District to serve as the district commander.

Jones has previously served on the ISP Specialty Teams USRT (Underwater Search and Recovery Team), TIP (Tactical Intervention Platoon) and CISM (Critical Incident Stress Management). He is also a past recipient of the ISP Combat Action Award.

A Parke County native, Lieutenant Jones served his country as a sergeant in the military police unit of the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune, N.C., Okinawa, Japan, and Subic Bay, Philippines. Jones holds an associate of science degree in criminology from Vincennes University.

He has four children, and his wife Deanna is an ISP detective assigned to the Putnamville District. The family resides in rural Parke County.
