Area girls invited to a Party in the Park

Thursday, August 19, 2010

INDIANAPOLIS -- Girls ages 5 to 17 and their families are invited to a Party in the Park from 3:30 until 8 p.m. Saturday at Robe-Ann Park. Putnam County girls may register for Girl Scouts during the event by paying $12 membership dues. Financial assistance is available.

Girl Scouts, girls interested in becoming Girl Scouts and their families are welcome to attend the event. Enjoy a bounce house and games from 3:30 until 5 p.m. and swim in the pool at Robe-Ann from 6 until 8 p.m. The event fee is $5 per person.

Girl Scouts has a comprehensive program for girls ages 5 through 17. The Girl Scout leadership development program helps girls learn to discover their own values, connect with their peers and adults, and take action to improve their communities. The 15 benefits of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience range from girls learning how to resolve a conflict to identifying and addressing a community need.

At any given time, only 10 percent of American girls are Girl Scouts -- but 80 percent of American female business owners and senior executives are former Girl Scouts. Seventy percent of women in the U.S. House and Senate are former Girl Scouts. Virtually every female astronaut who has flown in space is a former Girl Scout.

Two-thirds of the women who are today's leaders in government, business, education, medicine, science and in their communities were once Girl Scouts.

"But two-thirds of too few is not enough," Jennifer Wright, membership development manager, said. "Every girl who wants to be a Girl Scout can become a Girl Scout. We will work diligently in this community to make that happen."
