Bainbridge receives 5 bids for street lighting

BAINBRIDGE -- The town of Bainbridge received five bids for the Area 1 Energy Efficiency Grant to improve the town's street lighting, and a final bid for an electrical supplier will be announced soon, clerk-treasurer Jason Hartman said.

All Phase Electric Supply Co., Brownstown Electric Company, HD Supply, Midwest Lighting Solutions and Shelby Thermal Engineers and Fabricators each submitted bids ranging from $40,29 to $62,470.

In June, the town was awarded $61,270 for traffic light and streetlight LED retrofits. The money is going toward building lighting retrofits in the town and for lighting for both the Bainbridge Volunteer Fire Department and the North Putnam Community School Corporation.

Funded through The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the purpose of the Area 1 Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant is to "assist eligible entities in creating and implementing strategies to: reduce fossil fuel emissions in a manner that is environmentally sustainable."

Plans for the sewer upgrade project in Bainbridge are also progressing on schedule and should be completed within a month, utility superintendent Jim Nelson reported at the Bainbridge Town Council meeting last week.

The town was recently awarded $234,300 through a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) through the Office of Community and Rural Affairs to improve the sewer. The project calls for chlorinating and dechlorinating the water per the request of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to disinfect it, Hartman said.

Hartman said the project, contracted by Robert E. Crosby Construction, should be completed by Sept. 21 with final payment on Oct. 21.

Hartman also presented the council with a claim voucher to receive the first installment of the grant for the project and advised that he would forward this claim to the state office for payment and then issue a check to the contractor.

Also at the meeting, Thursa Evens with the Bainbridge Improvement Society announced the Everlasting Foundation in conjunction with the Putnam County Library have submitted a grant proposal to open a library branch in Bainbridge.

The Putnam County Public Library recently applied for an Envision 2011 grant through the Putnam County Community Foundation for $100,000.

Part of its proposal is to increase access to books and literacy services for all Putnam County citizens by establishing two new branches, one in Bainbridge and one in Cloverdale.

The winner of the Envision 2011 grant will be announced to the public on Oct. 2.

  • 60 thousand dollars works out to about 3 lights by Greencastle standards.
