Natural resources camp begins in September

Friday, August 27, 2010

The fall offering of the Indiana Master Naturalist (IMN) program is approaching, and IMN encourages those with an interest in learning more about natural resources, environmental science and the natural resources of the Wabash Valley.

The program is an eight-week training series that features modules covering natural resource education. The program will take place in the Terre Haute area beginning Thursday, Sept. 9 and conclude on Thursday, Oct. 28. Class time will take place from 9 a.m. until noon each Thursday. Program fee of $75 covers all program costs.

The IMN program brings together natural resource specialists with adult learners to foster an understanding of Indiana's plants, water resources, soils and wildlife. IMN students participate in eight hands-on learning sessions and then help provide volunteer services to the local community. After completing the eight class modules, participants can accrue 24 hours of community service to complete their certification.

The IMN program is sponsored locally by Sycamore Trails Resource Conservation & Development Council, a non-profit serving west central Indiana. Program questions may be directed to Purdue Extension educator Jim Luzar at 812-462-3371. Program applications are available online at www.ces.purdue.edu/vigo or www.sycamoretrails.org

Seats are limited so persons interested are encouraged to apply now.
