View from the Sky

Clear weather Friday morning offered the perfect setting for a cruise around Greencastle in an airplane from the Putnam County Airport. Mayor Sue Murray and two Banner Graphic staff members got just that opportunity, enjoying unique views of, clockwise, from above, McAnally Center, the Putnam County Courthouse, the DePauw University campus, and just about any other site around the city. Airport officials are hoping for a similar day on Sept. 11, when the airport hosts Airport Appreciation Day. The day will include plane rides for children and adults, demonstrations, display aircraft and a variety of events to be profiled in an upcoming edition of the Banner Graphic.

  • Anyone find the amusing irony of Airport Appreciation Day being on 9/11?

  • I think that day is the perfect choice to celebrate our rights and freedoms as Americans, including our ability to safely fly whenever and wherever we want. Aviation is one of the many great things about being an American. I encourage everyone to come out to the airport and take a flight!
