Beach fireworks set for Saturday

Lieber State Recreation Area will host Fireworks at the Beach Saturday.

Friends of Cagles Mill Lake will sponsor the event, which will begin at dusk. Attendees should bring lawn chairs or blankets on which to sit.

The program is free, but donations toward next year's fireworks display will be accepted.

The usual park entrance fee of $5 for Indiana residents and $7 for non-residents will be charged at the gate for each vehicle.

Friends of Cagles Mill will also host an ice cream social from 1 to 3 p.m. on the same day.

Hog roast will be Saturday

The Clinton Township/VBL Volunteer Fire Department will be holding its second annual hog roast from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

The fire department is hosting the event as a means to earn money for needed equipment as well as training for their volunteers. Recently the fire department has increased its firefighter/EMT rosters and hopes to increase them even further. It now has certified firefighters, EMTs and water rescue certifications.

All interested residents are encouraged to stop in and fill out an application for the department if interested in volunteering.

The department will also be giving away free smoke detectors to those who are in need.

Stop by and get acquainted with your neighborhood first responders.
