Club to sponsor 2 new specialties

GREENCASTLE --On Wednesday, the Putnam County Extension Homemakers will have an informational meeting at the Putnam County Fairgrounds about two new specialty clubs the organization is sponsoring.

The meeting will run from 7 to 8 p.m.

Bonnie Bryan, of the Extension Homemaker's membership committee, came up with the ideas for these specialty clubs after attending a conference at Purdue University on how to increase membership, and also based on the increased photography and quilting entries at the state fair.

A postcard with information about the meeting will be sent out to all who had photography and quilts entered in the county fair this past July.

Bryan has been a member of the Homemakers group for the past 25 years. She has started a specialty club at DePauw University that meets on a monthly basis.

Bryan and Jackie Baumann of the Putnam County Office of Purdue Extension office are both hoping for a large turnout at the informational meeting.

This is the 97th year for the Putnam County Extension -- the largest volunteer organization in the state. Baumann said the extension club started out by offering classes in sewing and preserving food and has evolved over the years the years to meet the needs of the community.

The location and costs of the new clubs will be decided by the members at the meeting.
