ROACHDALE -- North Putnam Lady Cougar soccer fell to Monrovia, 3-2.

North Putnam junior Lydia Volland assisted Maggie Pinney's first goal with 24:18 to go in the first half. Monrovia's Ronja Wieboldt scored the first goal for the Bulldogs shortly after. Pinney was able to score again for the Cougars with 8:21 remaining in the first.

Second half scoring belonged to Monrovia. They were able to score a second goal with 29:18 to go followed by a penalty kick at the 15:00 mark, bringing the score to 3-2. Midway through the second half, Cougar goalkeeper Jaclyn Roush became injured. When she left the game, Roush had nine saves with three goals including the penalty kick scored on her. Pinney replaced her and had 12 saves.

Pinney took five shots, scoring two goals, Taylor Bayden had one shot, and Volland had an assist.

North Putnam coach Willie Gaskins contributed several things to the way the game turned out. "It was a close match until on a red card was given. It was an unfortunate and untimely red-card. It took us down to 10 players and once we were playing with 10, we remained on defense for the remainder of the match. A forward and my goalkeeper getting injured also contributed."
