Purdue Club hosts 'Bug Doctor' at Oct. 19 dinner
GREENCASTLE -- Tom Turpin, better known as Purdue University's "Bug Doctor," will be the featured speaker at a dinner on Oct. 19, sponsored by the Purdue Club of Putnam County.
The dinner and program begin at 6:30 p.m. at Autumn Glen.
Turpin is a professor of entomology at Purdue and the creator of the wildly popular "Bug Bowl," a tribute to all things creepy and crawly held each spring at the Purdue campus.
He will bring an insect road show to the program and provide an entertaining look at the insect world. He often involves audience participation and combines information on the contribution of insects to our lives with a hilarious look at the bug world.
Turpin has won several teaching awards, including the Entomological Society of America Distinguished Achievement Award, and is the author of the books "What's Buggin' You Now? Bees Knees, Bug Bites and Beetles" and "Flies in the Face of Fashion, Mites Make Right, and other Bugdacious Tales."
Ron Birt, President of the Purdue Club of Putnam County, invites the public to this special dinner and program. The club is open to anyone in Putnam County with ties to Purdue University.
Its goals include promoting Purdue as the college choice for students and giving scholarships to county students attending Purdue, promoting awareness of Purdue programs throughout Indiana, and promoting fellowship among Purdue friends.
The club has awarded $ 12,100 in scholarships over the past nine years.
