Bainbridge PD to purchase video equipment

BAINBRIDGE -- Town marshal Rodney Fenwick requested the purchase of video recording equipment for the police department per the requirement of state law effective Jan. 1, 2011 at the town's most recent meeting.

Fenwick said the cameras, to be purchased at an estimated cost of $1,500 to $1,600, would be used to record verbally and physically statements for court cases and files.

He has plans to buy two or three portable units to record statements on scenes in addition to one that would stay in the courthouse.

"The city of Greencastle already has it, so we're working with the sheriff's office and several different ways to get money," Fenwick said.

The town is working with Putnam County Prosecutor Tim Bookwalter to assist with the purchase of the equipment, Fenwick said.

Utility Superintendent Jim Nelson said substantial completion of the sewer plant upgrade was scheduled for Friday, and that the work will be completed on time.

Nelson said most of the energy efficient lighting has been installed in the community building and utility building.

The council discussed a $20,000 estimate provided by Land and Son Paving to pave an 8-foot wide, quarter-mile long walk path, and voted to allow Nelson and Bainbridge clerk-treasurer Jason Hartman to work with the company on the project.

Nelson agreed to remove the topsoil and deliver stone to reduce some of the expense.

The board unanimously voted to continue with both the recycle center and walk path project, not to exceed the estimated price of $29,000.
