Hacker to run for South Putnam School Board seat

Wesley Hacker has announced his candidacy for the Jefferson Township seat on the South Putnam Community School Corp. Board.

Hacker said his main reasons for running include a desire to "make sure we are doing everything possible to prepare our students for the future," to "surround our students with the very best administrators and teachers" and to "build upon communication, cooperation and participation of students, parents and the administration."

He has further goals to "utilize our vast number of local resources in helping us achieve goals," to "insure that we are exploring all avenues for grants and funding," to "examine our budgets to make sure we are operating wisely and efficiently as a corporation so that we are prepared to continue funding reductions that are in the foreseeable future" and "to insure an open line of communication to your board members so that all thoughts, ideas and concerns may be heard."

Hacker and his wife Nicole have been married for 21 years. They have two children: Lane, a freshman at South Putnam High School, and Parker, a second-grader at Central Elementary.

Hacker has been an independent agent for Landstar, one of the nation's largest trucking companies, since 1998. He and his wife own and operate Hacker's Custom Baling Service and Hacker's Farm Fresh Beef.

Hacker attended Belle Union Grade School. He graduated from South Putnam High School in 1985 and from Vincennes University in 1987.

Hacker is the Jefferson Township representative on the Putnam County 4-H Fair Board. He belongs to the Putnam County Cattleman's Association and the South Putnam Quarterback Club.

"If I am elected as your school board representative, I will ensure that our school system is operating effectively and efficiently," Hacker said. "I will listen to your concerns, as communication is the key to making any organization work."

Election Day is Nov. 2.
