Jackson jailed for violating terms of bond
GREENCASTLE -- A Greencastle woman awaiting trial on felony battery charges is now being held at the Putnam County Jail for violating the terms of her bond.
Treva J. Jackson, 36, was arrested Sept. 21, 2009 after an altercation at a local tavern. She faces four charges of Class C felony battery by means of a deadly weapon, each punishable by up to eight years in prison.
At her initial hearing on Sept. 21, 2009, she pled not guilty to all charges. Her bond was set at $20,000 cash.
James Recker, who was Jackson's court appointed attorney at the time, filed a request for bond reduction for his client on Sept. 30, 2009. That request was granted on Oct. 13, 2009. Judge Matthew Headley reduced Jackson's bond to $20,000 with 10 percent allowed.
A bond of $2,005 was posted for Jackson two days later. As a condition of her bond, Jackson was ordered to hook up to electronic home monitoring. Jackson did so, and a request for release from home monitoring was denied by the court on Nov. 12, 2009.
A petition to revoke Jackson's bond and terminate her from day reporting with the Putnam County Probation Department alleges that Jackson is $220 behind in fees, which she agreed to pay as a condition of her bond.
The report, which was prepared by Probation Officer Rebecca Brush, goes on to say that Jackson agreed to not use or possess alcoholic beverages, and that "(Jackson) admitted to this officer and home detention Officer Jason Chambers that she consumed alcohol on Sept. 15, 2010, and that she regularly drinks alcohol three to four times per week."
Jackson's home was searched on Sept. 16, the report said, and several bottles containing alcohol were found. Additionally, an empty alcohol bottle was found in Jackson's vehicle.
Jackson had also agreed not to possess firearms and weapons, and the report said a knife was found in her car. Jackson also agreed, as a term of day reporting, to pursue her general equivalency diploma.
"It is this officer's opinion that (Jackson) has not made a good effort to pursue this goal," Brush said in her report.
Jackson has also failed to maintain employment since she was released on bond.
According to court documents, Jackson was at Old Toppers Tavern in Greencastle on Sept. 19, 2009, when she got into an argument with another patron. Allegedly, that verbal spat escalated into physical violence, and Jackson ended up pulling a knife and injuring four people with it.
The original trial date for the case was Feb. 24, but has been continued several times. A week before she was set to go to trial in July, Jackson told the court she planned to change her plea, and a change of plea hearing was set fr July 22. Due to the illness of Jackson's new attorney, James Holder Jr., the change of plea hearing was reset for Aug. 19.
At that hearing, Jackson informed the court she no longer wished to plead guilty, and a trial in the case was set for Oct. 6. On Sept. 14, Holder requested a continuance, and the trial was pushed back to Nov. 24.
Jackson's trial date remains set for Nov. 24. No other hearing dates have been set.
