Golf outing winners donate prize money back to Red Cross
GREENCASTLE -- Putnam County's chapter of the American Red Cross hosted its 2010 golf outing on Sept. 17. While first prize was $200, second place $100 and third place $50, all the winning teams donated back their prize money.
The money will be used for disaster services provided by the chapter for Putnam County residents in time of distress.
First prize went to North Salem State Bank, second place to Abundant Life Baptist Church and third to the Wood Group, Inc.
"These gifts to the American Red Cross help us empower ordinary people to perform extraordinary acts in emergency situations, help us train, help us mobilize, helps us connect donors and volunteers to those in urgent need of a helping hand," said Ginger Scott of the Red Cross. "Whether it is a home fire or a heart attack; a call for blood or a call for help, the American Red Cross is there because of these caring gifts.
Last fiscal year, Putnam County Red Cross volunteers responded to five home fires providing emergency financial assistance to 24 people, trained 124 individuals how to be prepared before disasters strike, transmitted 13 emergency messages between local military families and their loved ones serving in the Armed Forces, certified 735 people in CPR/First Aid and 839 people in Water Safety and Life guarding and taught 100 elementary age children how to be safer through Red Cross Basic Aid Training.
