INDIANAPOLIS -- The North Putnam FFA Chapter will be participating in the National FFA Food Science and Technology Career Development Event (CDE) during the 83rd National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Oct. 20--23.

Members of the team are Keegan Foltz, Valerie Scott, Tari Straziscar and Tatum Straziscar. The team is coached by Kate Skirvin.

"This CDE provides FFA members the ability to gain awareness of career and professional opportunities in the field of food science and technology, marketing and management occupations," said Melissa Brown, CDE program manager.

Participants take an objective test, design and formulate or reformulate a simulated food product, practice quality assurance-Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles, conduct a sensory analysis and apply food safety and sanitation principles.

The National FFA Food Science and Technology CDE is sponsored by Kraft Foods as a special project of the National FFA Foundation. The event is one of 23 CDEs held annually at the national FFA convention.
