Tigers remain unbeaten after 35-21 win

Derrick Karazsia rushed for 80 yards on 28 carries, including three touchdowns in the Tigers' 35-21 victory Saturday over Millsaps.

JACKSON, Miss. -- DePauw scored three times in the fourth quarter including the final 14 points in a 35-21 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win at Millsaps.

The Tigers improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the SCAC for the program's best start since 1985. The Majors dropped to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in the SCAC.

Millsaps took the early lead as Garrett Pinciotti teamed with Jason O'Rears for a 9-yard pass on the Majors' second drive, but DePauw took the lead in the second on touchdown runs of 4 yards by Jon Ellis and 1 yard by Derrick Karazsia.

The Majors knotted the score at 14-14 on O'Rears 7-yard scoring pass from Pinciotti. DePauw regained the lead on the first play of the fourth as Michael Engle connected with Alex Koors for a 4-yard scoring pass.

On Millsaps' first play after the ensuing kickoff, Michael Galatas scored on a 68-yard pass play from Pinciotti. The Tigers wrapped up the game as Karazsia scored on two more 1-yard runs in the fourth.

Karazsia rushed for 80 yards on 28 carries including three touchdown runs. Engle completed 22 of 38 passes for 170 yards with one TD and two interceptions. Koors, Nathan Evans and Brayden Dahlstrom each caught six passes in the win.

Pinciotti completed 14 of 25 passes for 271 yards and three TDs. Theriot was the top receiver with four catches for 83 yards.

Myron Burr led DePauw with five tackles, while Will Hawkins totaled 21 for Millsaps.

DePauw returns to action on Saturday, when it hosts Rhodes in a 1 p.m. contest on Old Gold Day.

Field Hockey

GREENCASTLE-- DePauw improved to 3-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 2-0 shutout against Hendrix at McKeen Field.

The win was the Tigers' seventh shutout of the season, as the squad improved to 9-2 overall and 3-1 in the SCAC. Hendrix fell to 1-6 on the year and 0-4 in conference play.

Margaret Ellis gave DePauw a 1-0 lead at 21:06, scoring on an assist from Kimberly Trainor. It was Ellis' 14th goal of the season. Trainor added a goal in the second half to propel the Tigers to the win.

DePauw recorded a 17-1 advantage in shots, putting 14 shots on goal in the contest. The Tigers also held a 15-5 advantage in corners.

Goalkeeper Liz Attewell earned her ninth win of the year, tallying one save. Hendrix's Alyssa Havens had 12 saves for the Warriors.

The Tigers host Sewanee in SCAC action on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Women's Soccer

JACKSON, Miss. -- DePauw extended its win streak to five straight and picked up its fourth shutout in the last five contests as it blanked Millsaps, 3-0.

The Tigers improved to 5-3 overall and remained unbeaten in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference at 4-0. Millsaps dropped to 6-4 overall and 0-2 in the SCAC.

Alexandra Ehr put the Tigers on the board first at 26:41 before Laura Kissinger made it 2-0 at 39:41. Emelie Johansson rounded out the scoring at 66:46.

DePauw outshot Millsaps 20-6 and held a 16-6 edge in corners. Lauren Palfrey and Caroline Kerr split time in goal for the Tigers' fifth shutout of the season.

The Tigers host Rhodes on Friday at 6 p.m.

Men's Soccer

JACKSON, Miss. -- DePauw, ranked 20th in Division III, gave up a goal in the game's third minute, but rallied with one of its own in each half to take a 2-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win at Millsaps.

The Tigers improved to 9-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the SCAC, while the Majors dropped to 2-6-1 overall and 0-4 in conference play. With the win, the Tigers clinched their 29th straight season with a .500 record or better.

Andrew Moise put Millsaps ahead at 2:46 on an assist from Trey Fontaine before Ryan Keefe knotted the score on an assist from Sam Meyer at 33:09. Dean Weaver delivered the game winner at 78:28.

DePauw outshot Millsaps 23-4 and held a 12-1 advantage in corners. Nate Sprenkel totaled one save for the Tigers and Dylan Broussard had 14 for the Majors.

The Tigers host Rhodes College on Friday, October 8, at 8 p.m.
