Cougars, Tiger Cubs in middle school football action Tuesday

The North Putnam Middle School football squads were in action on Tuesday against Turkey Run and North Vermillion.

The Cougar seventh grade team received a forfeit from Turkey Run. The Cougar seventh grade scrimmaged the Warrior eighth grade coming out on the short end, one score to nothing. The Cougars outgained the Warriors, but untimely fumbles and dropped passes killed three long drives.

The Cougars were led on offense by Bradley Hodges, Devondre Burrell, and Cameron McPherson. The Cougars were stout on defense only surrendering one score when the Warriors were given a short field after a turnover. Defensive leaders were Cameron Boller and Brandon Wunderlich. The Cougar seventh grade is now 5-3 on the season.

The North Putnam eighth graders played North Vermillion coming out on the short end of a 28-6 battle.

The lone Cougar touchdown came on a 61-yard pass from Cole Dean to Tucker Lowe. Leaders for the Cougars were Jake Riggen, Jensen Conlin, Cody Smith, Nolan Ensor and Daniel Allee. The Cougar eighth graders are 4-3 on the season.

Both Cougar squads are in action today at South Putnam.

Greencastle

The Greencastle Middle School football teams split with Cascade Tuesday. The seventh grade team lost 24-14, while the eighth graders won 40-8.

Both teams will host South Putnam Monday.
