Program planned at Turkey Run

The reclusive John Lusk, preservationist and owner of the land that became Turkey Run State Park, will be portrayed by Ed Timm of Rockville on Oct. 21.

Was it true that John Lusk never threw away his newspapers, but let them accumulate on the floor until he had to make a path through them to reach his bed, his table, his stove? Was it true that he could pick up a heavy chair with his teeth and carry it about the room?

Was it true that after he had talked to strangers he put camphor or skunk oil on his long unkempt hair to offset any opinion that the stranger may have thrown on him?

It is true that he revered his heritage of nature and resisted every effort to cut down his beloved trees. Because of him we now have the vales and glens, dense forest and windy trails that are Turkey Run State Park.

Celebrate October with the Friends of Turkey Run and Shades on Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. in the Dogwood Room in the basement of Turkey Run Inn.

Come in period costume (1800s-early 1900s), or share a story or a reading about anything or anyone related to Turkey Run State Park -- or just come and listen to others and pay a forfeit of $2 that will go toward the renovation of the Lusk Home kitchen.

Bring an appetizer to share and enter through the Inn's east side door.
