Letter to the Editor

Expressing silver anniversary appreciation

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

To the Editor:

The celebration of the Putnam County Community Foundation's 25th anniversary on Oct. 2 was fabulous and a day to remember.

Such an extravaganza could not have happened without the contributions of many, many volunteers and donors.

First, Therese Cunningham, as the event patron, transformed our vision of what the day would be for our community. Duke Energy and Cindy Mattox of Bank of America Home Loans made the music and the after-party possible.

Table sponsors included DePauw University, Ivy Tech Foundation, First National Bank, Old National Bank, Tri-County Bank, Wabash Capital, Nancy Michael, Anthony and Karen Nelson Heavin, Jeff and Denise Sigworth, Steve Aker and Vicki Timm, Don and Linda Ruark, John and Rea Zeiner, and Jinsie Bingham.

Putnam County Rural Transit donated buses, bus drivers and gas for our Silver Odyssey Bus Tour. Jinsie Bingham created four tours, full of history and fun. June Brattain, John Nees, Darrell Wiatt, and Rodger Winger served as tour guides.

Lynn and Dave Bohmer and Bob and Sharon Evans enabled us to host the Honorary Board Member and Founder reunion luncheon.

Jenny Sullivan at Eitel's Flowers donated her time to design and construct beautiful floral silver centerpieces.

Marilynn Culler spent the entire day with us as our official photographer, helping capture Community Foundation history in the making. Ashley Dora, Karen Weaver, Trish Williams and the rest of the team at The Inn at DePauw delivered exquisite service and food to our guests.

Many people helped decorate and clean up: Steve Aker, Todd and Katrina Lewis, Kim Whited, Jim Ensley and Ellie Ypma.

The Silver Anniversary Celebration Committee and staff members worked countless hours creating this wonderful day for our community. Those persons include Jinsie Bingham, Lynn Bohmer, Therese Cunningham, Karen Nelson Heavin, Susan Price, Phyllis Rokicki, Denise Sigworth, Vicki Timm, June Javens-Wolfe, and our staff team, Grace Hudson, Marcus Whited, and Eric Wolfe.

Finally, I want to thank the 210 people who joined our celebration -- some from long distances.

I am privileged to serve as the Executive Director of your Putnam County Community Foundation. Thank you!
