Mary Ann (Jones) Hanna, 90, of Greencastle passed away Oct. 7, 2010 at Asbury Towers Retirement Community in Greencastle.

She was born on Aug. 8, 1920 in Putnam County. Her parents were Bernice (Allen) and B. Frank Jones.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Albert Kenneth Hanna; brother, Benjamin Allen Jones; granddaughter, Jill Elizabeth Hanna; and nephews, John Hanna and Steve Hanna.

She is survived by daughter Susanne (Hanna) MacTavish and husband Douglas of Virginia; son Donovan Allen Hanna and wife Marthell of Florida; grandson Russell Evan Henderson and wife Jennifer of Virginia; granddaughter, Andrea Renee (Henderson) O'Hara and husband Jack of West Virginia; first cousins: Bob Evans and wife Sharon of Greencastle, and Richard Evans and wife Vicki of Costa Rica; Greencastle cousins: Steve Jones and wife Kathy; Bayard Allen and wife Francis; John Allen and wife Susan; niece Mary Elizabeth (Hanna) Edgar of Florida; five step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hanna was a graduate of Greencastle High School, DePauw University, University of Illinois and Western Michigan University.

She was a librarian. Starting her career as a school librarian in Georgia and Alabama, she then spent 20 years as a school library consultant for the Library of Michigan.

After the death of her husband in 1980 she went back to work in libraries first as the director of Public Library Kingstree, S.C. and then as the director of Highlands County Library System, Florida.

After growing up in Greencastle she lived in Ohio, Georgia, Alabama, Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and returned to Greencastle in 2004 to be near her brother Ben.

Mrs. Hanna was Kappa Alpha Theta, PEO, a member of American Association of University Women, and American Library Association (where she was President of the Young Adult Services Division, 1970-71).

The family will receive friends at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home in Greencastle on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. A memorial service will be conducted at Hopkins-Rector, with the Rev. Jim Staggers officiating, at 11 a.m.

Interment will be on Monday at 9 a.m. at Deepdale Memorial Park, Lansing, Mich.
