Volunteers sought for tax preparation

Friday, October 15, 2010

The local AARP Tax-Aide program is looking for volunteers who enjoy helping others and like the challenge of completing tax forms.

All volunteers are provided vast training materials for free. Assistance is provided for completing the extensive test required by the Internal Revenue Service, and upon completion volunteers will have the knowledge to complete most tax returns.

Materials will be arriving soon. All tax preparation is done at the Putnam County Public Library. Volunteers are asked to be available at least four hours per week. All tax preparation is done by appointment, and volunteers always work with a partner.

The season begins Feb. 1 and ends April 15.

Those interested in volunteering can go to the national Web site at www.aarp.org, click on MONEY, TAXES, the AARP TAX AIDE toward the bottom.
