Caring and Sharing Brunch to display 'Little Pieces of Home'
GREENCASTLE -- Putnam County Extension Homemakers invite members of the community to join them for brunch from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Putnam County Fairgrounds.
Attendees will enjoy a variety of displays and presentations of holiday decorations and ideas for ways to show sharing and caring during the holidays and throughout the year. One of the presentations will be given by Ella Marie Torr and Evie Zeis about the "Little Pieces of Home" care packages program, their club the Merry J's, has been working on for over two years. With the help of Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, which provides the boxes and provides the shipping, they have supplied 122 care packages to service men and women.
In addition to snacks, games and personal care items every box includes a personal note and a self addressed envelope and writing paper. The Merry J's have received notes of appreciation from many of the service people who've received packages, including Sergeant First Class Kim Disbro from Reelsville, who visited the club in person upon her return to the area to tell them how much the packages are appreciated when received.
Attendees of the Caring and Sharing Brunch are also invited to bring items for the Little Pieces of Home program for troops overseas or coats for Putnam County Coats for Kids or simply to come and learn more about these and other ways of caring and sharing.
The brunch is part of the group's celebration of the 2010 Extension Homemakers Week. The cost of the brunch is $2. Reservations can be made by calling Sara Bridges at 720-2025. Breakfast strata, muffins, fruit and drinks will be served beginning at 9:30 a.m.
