Letter to the Editor

Cloverdale auxiliary recognized

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

To the Editor:

As we prepare for the upcoming Christmas and Valentine mail collections, Friends of Our Troops Headquarters would like to extend special thanks to the American Legion Auxiliary Hurst Collins Unit of Cloverdale.

Led by Dora Clark, they were the No. 1 group in Indiana and in the Top 10 American Legion auxiliaries nationally in the most recent campaign.

Three of the auxiliary's members prepared more than 100 pieces of mail each. The auxiliary had participants from Poland, Greencastle, Bowling Green, Clayton and Quincy.

Cards and letters are received from all across the nation, mixed thoroughly, then divided up into hundreds of packages, both large and small, to be sent to military units across the United States and around the world.

As the continuation of the Vietnam Mail Call project was launched in 1965, this mail has been boosting the morale of our men and women in uniform for almost a half-century.

Anyone who would like to know how to join the Fan Mail for the Troops campaign can receive complete information and instructions by sending their name and mailing address to Friends of Our Troops, PO Box 65408, Fayetteville, NC 28306.

The troops will thank you, and so do we.
