No Halloween scares: Art Attack has kid-friendly activities

GREENCASTLE -- This Sunday, children of all ages are invited to Art Attack, the arts event designed specifically for children during DePauw University's annual ArtsFest.

A lively afternoon of performances, workshops, tours and hands-on art activities, Art Attack kicks off the weeklong "ArtsFest 2010: Art & the Green Castle" celebration, and will take place Sunday from 12:30 to 4 p.m. in the Judson and Joyce Green Center for the Performing Arts.

In its ninth year, this popular event is an opportunity for DePauw students to share their artistic knowledge and passions with Putnam County children. The event is free and open to all.

The Green Center will buzz with activity as student organizations, honorary societies, sororities, fraternities and talented individuals gather to host the fun-filled Halloween afternoon. Hands-on crafts will be offered throughout the event including mask making, finger puppet-making, make-your-own instrument and jewelry making.

Visitors are invited to performances offered by Wamidan Dance Troupe, the singers of DePauwCapella, DePauw Color Guard, the improvisational theatre troupe Public Parts Ltd., a belly dance troupe and more.

The DePauw Symphony Orchestra has a special program planned for the day at 3 p.m. which includes Britten's "The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra" and John Williams' Harry Potter music. Also planned are a poetry workshop, a participatory drum circle, and the ever-popular musical petting zoo.

New for this year is the Charity Golf Outing where patrons can play on artistically designed holes to support local school art programs. The suggested donation is art supplies (crayons, glues, scissors, etc.) or cash.

Stage-struck individuals are encouraged to tour DePauw Theatre's Moore Theatre.

DePauw's student radio station, WGRE, will be broadcasting from the event offering opportunities for visitors to be on the radio.

Parking is free anywhere on campus apart from emergency and reserved spaces.

Come in costume or plan to have the talented students of the DePauw Student Arts Council paint your face for Halloween.
