Church youth group plans to trick-or-treat for a cause

GREENCASTLE -- Middle and high schoolers at Greencastle Christian Church will spend Halloween night collecting "treats" for those who truly need them.

Sixth through 12th-grade students in the ONE80 youth group will conduct the "Trick-or-Treat so Kids Can Eat!" program by going door-to-door and trick-or-treating for canned goods and non-perishable items.

The collections are then sorted and divided into care boxes, with a few staple perishable items added to each box, as well as a turkey. Boxes are delivered to families in need in the Putnam County area just in time for Thanksgiving.

Last year the program helped 25 families, but organizers hope to double that number this year.

Around 100 students and adult sponsors help with this project from start to finish.
