Dallas James Smith

Mr. Dallas James Smith, 70, of Greencastle, passed away Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born Aug. 13, 1940 in Indianapolis, he was the son of Robert LeRoy and Freida (Arbuckle) Smith.

He married Carolyn S. (Snyder) Smith on Aug. 22, 1959, and she survives.

Mr. Smith had worked at Kadel Engineering in Danville for 10 years, retiring in 2004; he previously had worked two years for Humphrey's Outdoor Equipment in Greencastle and 27 years with Allison Transmissions at plant No. 14 in Indianapolis. He attended Greencastle Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Jeffrey Smith (Allison) of Norwalk, Ohio; two daughters, Vicki O'Hair of Greencastle and Lisa Gill of Avon; a sister, Freida Ann Bennett (Mike) of Mooresville; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Henry Smith; grandson, Timothy Smith; and a granddaughter, Tanya O'Hair.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Miller officiating. Burial will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday.
