Roachdale salary ordinance passed with some increases

Wednesday, November 10, 2010

ROACHDALE -- Town Council members approved the salaries of elected town officials effective for the first pay period in January 2011 at their regular business meeting Tuesday night.

According to the ordinance, which was passed 3-0, some salaries and wages for town employees have increased while others remained the same.

Increased wages include that of the deputy clerk, who will receive $12 per hour, paid equally from each of the three utilities; and town marshal, a salaried position which earns $748.73 per week paid from the general fund. Deputy marshal will make an hourly wage of $12 for up to 20 hours per week paid from the general fund.

The wages of the town council members will remain the same at $200 a month for each member, while clerk-treasurer will continue to earn $752.70 per week.

After reviewing the proposed ordinances and changes to vehicle violated fees presented at the October board meeting, town attorney Jim Ensley gave the go ahead for the board to continue on with writing the proposal.

Following a first and second reading of the proposed changes, which would take place at future board meetings, the ordinances would officially go into effect, Ensley said.

The changes would apply to violations within town limits and would include fines for both moving and non-moving violations.

The board also fielded complaints of a residence on the south side of town that is housing pigs, chickens and roosters.

Town marshal Mike Mahoy said it is against town ordinance to have livestock within town limits, a fact he said many residents don't realize is on the books.

"A lot of people don't know the rules on that. It's similar to our abandoned car ordinance," he said.

In other business, the board approved the annual merchants' Christmas in Roachdale event, which will take place after 5 p.m. Dec. 10, clerk-treasurer Martha Louk said.

  • Ok, so the clerk of the town makes as much money as some of your bigger towns for doing less, that sounds good, considering our utilities just keep going up. Plus we have a deputy marshall who got a raise for doing what?? Sure don't see much work being done to support a raise. One last thing, the town fielded complaints about the farm animals, so, what is the outcome?? Newspaper just fails to report any results of these complaints?

  • Dear magoo55 i know who you are, and sad to see you think this way about people getting raises, concidering your husband was a deputy once for the town of roachdale making 12.00 hr. whats the big deal, you really think 12.00 hr is alot for a a deputy to make when he does the same thing a sheriff and state police do (NO) I think you should be glad a deputy would risk his life for 12.00 hr to make you safe, just like when your husband worked for 12.00 hr. but im sure 12.00hr was not enough when your husband did it, RIGHT

  • See that is just it, you know nothing, you must think you know who i am, if you did, you would know that my wife, who is not a cop, never worked for any police dept. As far as what the deputy town marshall makes, it really doesn't matter, he just needs to work and be seen working. Alot of reserves work more than he does and get nothing, so unless you know the facts keep it to yourself and be sure you know what you are posting.

  • Wow, maybe you don't see the Deputy Marshal much cause he works hours you are not home or either in bed....FYI, he works late nights and very early morning hours from what I hear. These guys do a good job for Roachdale despite what you and others think! These guys put their lives on the line to protect you and in my book none of them get paid near enough for the crap they put up with.

  • @twoshoes22, I could care less about the town of Roachdale and who makes how much. I would like to point out that you made a grammatical error yourself. Its 'facts' not 'fax'. You might want to meet Webster yourself. Maybe you could send him a 'fax' to set up a meeting?
