Ongoing Events

* The Veil: Visible and Invisible Spaces, Sept. 7-Dec. 10, Galleries at Peeler, Richard E. Peeler Art Center. By engaging perceived wisdom about the veil -- particularly current clichés and stereotypes about Islamic practices -- this exhibition reflects on the ubiquity, importance, and profundity of the veil throughout human history and imagination. For more information please call 658-4336 or check www.depauw.edu/galleries

* Terrence Hannum: New Rites, Sept. 22-Dec. 10, Galleries at Peeler, Richard E. Peeler Art Center. Terrence Hannum's paintings, drawings, and video installations employ the imagery and rituals of underground music subcultures as a means of exploring the transcendence and impermanence of sound and performance. For more information please call 658-4336 or check www.depauw.edu/galleries

* Tarrah Krajnak and Wilka Roig: (untitled #), Oct. 27-Dec. 10, Galleries at Peeler, Richard E. Peeler Art Center. Deeply rooted in the language of the archive and the dialect of performance, Tarrah Krajnak and WIlka Roig's photographs expose the rhetoric underlying representational strategies and question their relationship to history and contemporary culture. For more information please call 658-4336 or check www.depauw.edu/galleries

* 2nd Annual Juried Show, Nov. 12-28, Low Road Gallery, Downtown Greencastle. Opening 7 p.m. Nov. 19 featuring talk by guest juror, Leslie Sharpe, professor of Digital Art at Indiana University.

Individual Events

Monday

* DePauw Horn Ensemble and Trombone Choir -- Robert Danforth and James Beckel, directors, 7:30 p.m., Green Center for the Performing Arts, Thompson Recital Hall

* Multicultural America Film Series: "Speaking in Tongues," 7 p.m., Pulliam Center for Contemporary Media, Watson Forum. The director, Marcia Jarmel, will be present to introduce the film and conduct a question and answer session after the screening. Free and open to the public. "Speaking in Tongues" tracks the extraordinary journey of four children -- African American, Mexican American, Asian American and Caucasian -- as they participate in their school's dual language immersion program and become fluent, from a very young age, in two languages. The film also explores the larger issue of multiculturalism in a linguistically rich and diverse America that nonetheless stubbornly insists on being monolingual.

* Guest Artist: Jeanette LoVetri -- Vocal Workshop, Nov. 15-17. Jeanette LoVetri is in demand as one of the world's top specialists training singers for contemporary commercial music (CCM) of all styles. Her expertise has been recognized worldwide through symposia, seminars and professional congresses and for master classes at universities and conservatories.

Claudio has also scored the love of the mayor's daughter, Hero. John, Pedro's brother, responds with a vengeful plan to disgrace Claudio's fiancée and destroy the intended marriage. Written by William Shakespeare, directed by Andrew Hayes. An opening night reception in the great hall will follow the show.
