Brothers in Arms

Greencastle VFW Post No. 1550 and American Legion Post No. 58 members presented the colors and a rifle salute at Thursday's Veterans Day ceremony on the south steps of the Putnam County Courthouse. Veterans taking part in the ceremony included, from left, Buck Martin, Bill Strahl, Eddie Jones, Dick Keller, Roy Giesen, Brian Hopkins, Dan Baldwin and Bernie Wahl. The ceremony commenced at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, just like the World War I Armistice in 1918. Chaplain Jim Staggers spoke briefly about why we mark this day, but should perhaps not consider it a celebration or holiday. "We don't mark this as a day of celebration, as proud as we are of that victory. We mark this day as a day of remembrance of those who made it possible." Banner Graphic/JARED JERNAGAN
