Alva (Al) Richard Carney Jr., 77, passed away early Nov. 11, 2010, peacefully with his wife by his side. Al was born Dec. 2, 1932, to Alva and Edna Julia Carney. They and his brothers, Leon and Harold, and sisters, Mildred and Paulene, all preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Linda; his children Craig Carney (Tracey), Scott Nichols, and Rachelle Morris (Cary); grandsons Zach Carney and Evan Morris; and his special furry children, Reggie and Kayli.

Al was an avid auto enthusiast. He was employed for the last 18 years at Ray Skillman Auto. He owned Al Carney Chevrolet-Buick in Greencastle for many years. He was a driver in the Grand National Circuit in the 1960s. He was a 50-year member of the Shrine, the Scottish Rite, and the Cloverdale Masons. Al was also a member of the Indianapolis 500 Club.

Al was a member of the Putnamville United Methodist Church and was at the time of his death a member of Mt. Auburn United Methodist Church in Greenwood.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, at G.H. Herrmann, Greenwood Funeral Home, 1605 S. State Rd 135 and Olive Branch Road. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Funeral Home.
