Sweet Visit

Thursday, December 9, 2010
Lacy Dooley, 2011 Indiana Honey Queen, visited the first-graders at Bainbridge Elementary recently. During her visit she spoke to the students about the different bees within the hive and their jobs. She explained that there are three different kinds of bees that make up a hive. They are the queen, drone, and worker bee. She then assigned students to those roles and gave them tasks that the bees would have within the colony to allow the students to visualize bees' daily tasks. She also talked to them about how the bees make the honey and how a bee keeper collects the honey from the man-made hive and what they wear to protect themselves from the bees. At the end of her visit, Dooley donated a book to the Bainbridge Elementary library and handed out stickers and coloring pages to all the students.
