North Putnam's Eric Davis puts a move on his South Putnam opponent during Wednesday's match at North Putnam.

ROACHDALE -- North Putnam hosted Monrovia, Rockville and county rival South Putnam Wednesday in wrestling action. South Putnam had a good day after going 2-1, while the host Cougars showed improvement, but posted a record of 0-3 on the night.

The Cougars tied Rockville 36-all in its final match of the night, but the Rox were declared the winner following the tiebreaker.

North Putnam head coach Kenny Kerns liked the progress he saw on Wednesday.

"We wrestled better. The football boys came in and they helped out and contributed and that's what we wanted to do. Forfeits hurt us in the end," Kern said.

"We're scrappers. We're fighting every time, the kids are not giving up, hanging heads -- I'm very pleased. I know we didn't win any and we lost the last one by tiebreaker," Kern added.

For the Eagles, they had four wrestlers go 3-0 on the night, with three more posting records of 2-1.

Nick Owen, Evan Potts, Joe Waters and Tanner Thompson all went 3-0, while Devan Buis, Andy Waters and Jacob Girton were 2-1. Braden Patrick, Rhaine Cluggish, Lane Hacker and Jacob Williams had one win each.

Head coach Josh Hendrickson liked the success he saw, but also noticed some areas the Eagles need to improve.

"I thought we wrestled well. It's still early in the season -- it's only our second match, so we still have a way to go," he said. "A lot of improving to do. We're awful young. We have a couple seniors, a lot of freshmen and a lot of sophomores. It was a good day.

"Individually we had some success," Hendrickson said.

Hendrickson said the Eagles began a little sluggish against the Rox and noted this was only the team's second meet of the season. He said the teams conditioning was good, but he saw some areas of technique where they still need to do some work.

"All in all it was a good day," he said.

Individual records were not available for North Putnam.
