Fatal accident on I-70

The Cloverdale Township Fire Department was dispatched at 1:01 a.m. Tuesday to eastbound I-70 for a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival firefighters found a vehicle off the roadway with the driver unresponsive. The driver was an 18-year-old female from Indianapolis, who was transported to Putnam County Hospital with serious injuries that proved to be fatal. It appears the driver had got into the slush in the left lane, lost control and then her vehicle was struck broadside by a semi-tractor trailer. The driver of the semi was not injured. The right lane of I-70 was shut down for about three hours while the police worked the scene.

  • A photo is worth a thousand words. Perhaps someone seeing this horrific sight will be

    just a little more cautious and not end

    up in a photo such as this.

  • Putnam County Hospital is one of the worst hospitals I have ever seen. I wouldnt advise going there if at all possible!

  • 1stamendrights Regardless of your feelings about Putnam County Hospital She was killed instantly so PCH would have been no help to her. My wife and I are very close friends of this family. She was their only child. Please be respectful!

  • I am sorry I have to agree with 1stamendrights, my friend too hit a tree and was sent to PCH and died had he been sent to a trama hospital he might have made it. Its sad that the small Hospitals do not have the technolgy as the big city ones. They have good doctors just no technology. My prayers go out to the family and the young girl taken from us at such a young age. God be with them! I too am struggling with my best friend in the hospital right now but she continues to do just a little bit better everyday. Hold in their Steph we all love ya!

    I hope and pray you never have to experience anything remotely close to what this family has gone through. I understand the sentiment but it should have been left unsaid.

  • megan3939, I hear what you're saying, but for you to tell me I'm insensitive and ignorant is a bit hypocritical on your part.

    Newspapers print pictures. The people who had a terrible loss learn to live with it in time. This is the way of things. To not let this girl's death be a lesson for future children is a waste of her legacy.
