INDIANAPOLIS -- Funeral services have been set for a Greencastle man who died Tuesday after being injured on the job in Shadeland.

Randy W. Carter II, 37, died Tuesday. He was involved in an accident at Evonik Degussa's Tippecanoe Labaratories on Monday, where he was doing insulation work through his employer, Performance Contracting, Insulation and Specialty Services.

Reports said Carter became lodged next to a building while in the basket of a mobile lift vehicle. The mishap occurred about 1:30 p.m.

According to Performance Contracting, Insulation and Specialty Services Vice President Mick Matthews, Carter had been hospitalized and on a ventilator at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after the accident. His family and doctors decided to remove life support, and Carter died late Tuesday afternoon.

Carter had lived in Greencastle for the past few years.

Evonik spokesperson Charles Greeley released a statement after Carter's death. Greeley confirmed that Carter was "involved in a work-related accident."

"We are deeply saddened to receive the news of (Carter's) passing, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family during this very difficult time," the statement said.

The accident is still under investigation.

"Evonik Degussa Corp. is working with Performance Contracting Inc. to learn more about the circumstances surrounding this incident," Greeley's statement said. "Authorities have been notified, and Evonik is providing its full cooperation."

Representatives of the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration are also assisting with the investigation.

Services for Randy Carter are set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center, Indianapolis.
