Teaching a group of local youngsters one of their cheers during the 2010 clinic, DePauw University cheerleaders (from left) Lyndsay Shake, Janie Carlisle and Kerstin Walker provide enthusiasm and instruction.

A cheerleading clinic for all Putnam County girls and boys in kindergarten through fifth grade will be conducted Friday, April 29.

Sponsored by the DePauw University cheerleaders, the cheer clinic is scheduled 4 to 8 p.m. in the DePauw Lilly Center gym.

Deadline for registration is April 1. The registration fee is $30 per child. That fee includes a T-shirt and pizza.

The youngsters will learn cheerleading and dance moves and will perform with the DePauw cheerleaders during Relay for Life, which is set for April 30 to May 1.

Cheerleader Kerstin Walker, a DePauw junior from Chicago, said this will be the third or fourth year the cheer camp has been conducted locally. "We had as much fun as the kids last year," she said of the cheerleaders.
