William E. Mugg

William Edward Mugg, 80, Fairview, Mont., died at his home on Tuesday, March 22, 2011.

He was born April 18, 1930 to parents Theory and Garnet (Chrisenberry) Mugg in Cloverdale. He grew up in Indiana graduating from Quincy High School with the class of 1949. After graduation he joined the United States Air Force where he served until 1953. He married Grace Thomas while in the Air Force and had five children. They later divorced.

In 1963, while at a baseball game he met and later married his childhood sweetheart Barbara Grace Stattner. They brought together a family of five children.

William worked at IBM during the day and farmed in the evenings. Together, they had one more child, David. William transferred to Kansas City, Mo. for a short time before transferring to Bishop, Texas, where he retired from IBM after 30 years with the company.

As a young man, William was active in politics and served at polling booths in Quincy. He was very active in his church where he served as a deacon and helped the church build houses in Mexico. William enjoyed being an active participant in his children's sports activities. After his retirement, he traveled the states with his wife, visiting family and friends. In 2008 they moved to Fairview due to ill health. His wife Barbara passed away in October of 2009.

Survivors include sons, Phillip Mugg of Indianapolis and Tim Ford of Columbus, Ohio; three daughters, Wanda Dye, of Vancouver, Wash., Quanita Mugg of Indianapolis and Deborah Firpo of Greer, S.C.; daughter-in-law, Shelly Tjelde of Cartwright, N.D.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

William was preceded in death by his parents, wife Barbara, sons John Mugg and David Mugg, daughter Phyllis Mugg; brother Bob Mugg and sister Dorothy Corns.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. May 7 at the 1st Baptist Church in Bishop, Texas with Brother Cliff Abshier officiating. Interment of the cremains will be in the Restland Memory Park Cemetery in Bishop.
