Greencastle begins superintendent search

The Greencastle Community School Board seeks community input as it begins the search for a new superintendent.

Superintendent Bob Green announced last month he will be leaving the corporation at the end of the school year. The board wants to hear from the community in its search.

"We want to invite members of the community to provide us with their input as we begin the process of hiring a successor to Superintendent Bob Green," board president Bruce Stinebrickner wrote in a letter to the Banner Graphic.

The board's next public meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Ridpath Primary School cafeteria.

"Last fall we adjusted our meeting agenda so that comments from the public are one of our first items of business," Stinebrickner said. "We shall welcome ideas and advice from community members as we begin our search for a new Greencastle superintendent."

  • We need to replace the whole school board first, so we don't get another whom closes the Greencastle school last on snow days, so we close to town have short notice that we don't have to make the dangerous trek on icy roads, only to find out that we now have to arrange to stay home from our jobs because of very late notification, long after North Putnam and South Putnam schools parents have been called. I have had the television on three hours before driving into town, and not notified until I get to the school. Do we need another Superintendent who is going to drain our school teachers fund of 40,000 dollars with the help of the current school board? Use your voice and your vote for "Change and Hope" that we can afford. And force the removal of this latest "Retirement Bonus" before we have to pay what we cannot afford now, and may not be able to afford for a very long time. It's no longer a booming economy, it's the depression that we have been headed toward for a long time, called "Boom or Bust". And we are busted.

  • Grencastle is 1 of only 12 school corporations in the state that have an appointed school board. Do they serve to please a special interest or do they serve to represent the tax payers? It is time that those that pay the cost of the school operation and salaries have a representation on the school board.

  • Just curious as to why all 4 of the Putnam County schools feel the need to have 4 separate superintendents for each individual school? Do you know how many superintendents Marion County has for all of their schools? ONE!!!! How about Vigo County? ONE!!!! Now, by each school having its own superintendent mean that the school is ran more efficiently with better student success rates? Well, based on statistics...ABSOLUTELY NOT! Superintendents in Indiana make an average of $140,000 a year. This means that Putnam County School Corporations could be saving an estimated $420,000 a year!! Not only do teachers get paid crap in the first place, there have been a lot of newer teachers losing their jobs in order to "cut costs." This just doesn't make sense. I would love for someone to enlighten me.
