Two Cloverdale men injured in I-70 crash

The chain reaction crash pictured above killed an Indianapolis man as well as injured two Cloverdale men.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Two Cloverdale men were injured in a Monday morning crash on westbound Interstate 70 that killed an Indianapolis man.

Robert Hamilton, 63, and Patrick Hamilton, 52, both of Cloverdale, were transported to Methodist Hospital for non-life threatening injuries following the accident and later released. The Chrysler Sebring in which they were traveling was part of a chain reaction crash following the initial accident.

Judson D. Dye, 41, Indianapolis, the driver of a Suzuki passenger car, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Marion County Coroner's Office.

According to an Indiana State Police investigation, a semi tractor-trailer hauling an oversized construction load eastbound at the 73-mile marker struck and moved several concrete barriers into a westbound lane of I-70.

The moving barriers struck a westbound Ford van, which started the chain reaction crash. The van was rear-ended by Dye's Suzuki, which was rear-ended by a White tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer was rear-ended by Hamilton's Chrysler, which was rear-ended by a Ford Crown Victoria and finally a Toyota passenger car.

Jason Dixson and Nathanel Holmes, the occupants of the Ford, were treated and released. The occupants of the two tractor-trailers, Ford van and Toyota were not injured.

The driver of the eastbound tractor-trailer with the oversized load, Donald l. Taylor Jr., 54, Indianapolis, was cited for not having a permit and violation of a permit. The truck is owned by Poindexter Transportation.

The ISP investigation of the crash is continuing and part of the investigation is to determine if the oversized load of the eastbound tractor-trailer was properly permitted.
