Russellville man, 68, facing child molestation charges

RUSSELLVILLE -- A 68-year-old Putnam County man was arrested at noon Thursday on charges of child molestation.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division at the Putnamville Post served a Putnam County arrest warrant on Fred Leroy Legrand for two counts of child molestation, a Class C felony.

Legrand was taken into custody at his Russellville home without incident. He was incarcerated in the Putnam County Jail without bond, State Police said.

On March 28, the Indiana Department of Child and Family Services in Putnam County contacted the Putnamville Post requesting assistance with allegations of child molestation against Legrand.

During the investigation, Indiana State Police Det. Sam Stearley developed information alleging that Legrand fondled a 10-year-old female friend of the family at his northern Putnam County home.

The acts allegedly occurred on March 24, 2011 during the victim's brief stay at the Legrand home.

Assisting Det. Stearley were ISP Det. Jim Dungan, the Indiana Department of Child and Family Services of Putnam County and the Putnam County Prosecutor's Office.

Fred has been doing this for a very long time. Hopefully they will dig deeper and reveal the whole truth of this twisted man.

Clovertucky one would think if you knew that he had been doing this you would have turned him in. Maybe it wouldn't have happened to another child if you did. If you knew and didn't be a voice for the child shame on you.

@jakeboy, The girls he molested in the 1980s would not testify against him. Fred has been investigated before and nothing came of it. Looks like a child is willing to testify this time. Good for them. There's not much we adults can do besides vigilante justice, which always backfires.

@clovertucky, obviously you don't know the facts and need to be corrected by someone who was there 31 years ago....The accusations began with two girls accusing first one man (who took a plea agreement)and before the ink was dry on the warrant accused Fred and another person of the same charges...the girls were placed in foster care and while in foster care accused the foster father of the same thing as well....after extensive investigation it was determined that the girls were being untruthful...their stories were inconsistant and therefore all charges were dismissed!!!

And here's another piece of info...the mother left her child to go on a drug run....you can bet she didn't disclose that information to the police.

@kwh: I don't know about 31 years ago, the first victim I know about was 1988-89. Then another in 1999-2000. Now this one. And who knows how many others in between. Seems funny that for 31 years, young girls have been accusing Fred of molesting them. And NONE of them were telling the truth? Really?

And the mother leaving for a drug run doesn't surprise me. She's a druggie. The trailer where she left her kid is full of druggies. She's married to a druggie. If you know something, you should contact the detectives listed in the article. Get this crap off the streets and away from harming children. Hasn't that family screwed up enough kids? Isn't it time to stop?

He had court today, but has not yet been sentenced. He was given $25,000 cash bond-10% (so can get out on $2,500 cash)

@clovertucky....you don't know....there were none in 1988-89 nor in 1999-2000....the only accusations where in 1982-1983 and he was never charged/arrested for anything!!!

And there certainly were no other accusations made by any other persons either!!!

I am a firm believer of justice....and if he is guilty....let the chips fall where they may....and let the judicial system make sure he can not do this again....IF HE IS GUILTY!!!

But people gossiping and spreading lies based on incorrect information regardless of who the person is.....I have no respect for....and you do not know what you are talking about....as I personally know the facts and you were not around/involved and are maliciously speaking untruths to make yourself look good!!!

Knows what happen apparently your too close to Fred to see the truth.And thats ok.Your father ,brother,or whom ever he is to you has been doing this for a while.People have keep it so they wouldn't hurt his wife.Well you know what ,the children are more important.And if you don't want to face reality thats your problem.He touched my own daughter and Freds only concern was who all knew.So get a grip.
