Thomas Edward Chesnut, 83, died at his residence on Saturday, May 7, 2011 following an extended illness.

He was born on April 12, 1928 in Chicago to John and Jeannie (Pepiot) Chesnut.

He served in the US Navy during World War II. He was an industrial engineer with DOD Naval Weapons Support Center for 30 years and retired in 1976. He also worked for Borg Warner until he retired in 1986.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Ruth A. Chesnut; children David T. (Tracy) Chesnut of Bluffton, John Chesnut of Bloomfield, Brian (Darla) Chesnut of Bloomfield, Marilyn (Steve) Roberts of Tampa, Fla., Carolyn (DJ) Spencer of Bloomington and Teresa (Mark) Bohn of Bloomfield; stepchildren Christina (Brian) Benedict of Clyde, Ohio, David (Michelle) Bobo of Noblesville and Kevin (Sherry) Bobo of Anderson; grandchildren Jason (Heather) Chesnut, Anthony Vest, Keygan Spencer, Stephanie Tarr, Kimberly Roberts, Deanna (Jeremy) Potts and D'Lee Chesnut, stepgrandchildren Sharon Willhoit, Dustin Bobo and BreAnne Bobo; great-grandchildren Quinn Vest, Lucy Vest, Bailee Chesnut, Micah Chesnut, Gavin Tarr and Bylynn Potts; and stepgreat-grandchildren Jaiden Willhoit, Trinity Willhoit and Saphera Willhoit.

He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Amber Brooke.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with pastors Ryan Rasmussen and James Proctor officiating. The burial will take place in East Maplewood Cemetery with military graveside rites being conducted by VFW Post No. 266 honor guard. The visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. by the Fellowship Masonic Lodge No. 681.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to American Cancer Society.
