23 DUI arrests over weekend for Putnamville Post police

PUTNAMVILLE -- A district-wide patrol staged Saturday and Sunday, May 7-8, against driving under the influence of alcohol resulted in 26 alcohol-related arrests, Indiana State Police at Putnamville report.

ISP officers arrested 23 people on individual charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and three more suspects on additional alcohol-related arrests.

The enforcement period began Saturday evening and ended in the early morning hours on Sunday.

The concentrated patrols resulted in an additional 20 criminal arrests during the period in the Putnamville District, which is now composed of Putnam, Parke, Clay, Vigo, Vermilion and Sullivan counties.

Other results from the May 7-8 patrols included:

-- 126 traffic citations issued.

-- 251 traffic warnings issued.

-- 18 seatbelt citations issued.

-- 72 portable breath tests administered.

The Indiana State Police at Putnamville will continue to hold DUI checkpoints and designated DUI patrols throughout the year in an effort to reduce impaired driving and promote seatbelt compliance.
