CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale boys' golf team defeated Turkey Run 169-190 Tuesday at home.

Chris Arnold was the medalist on the night with a score of 37. Gary Williams followed with a 41, with Mike Matthews adding a 44 and Colte Tomlinson and Ryan Book a 47. Sam Jordan carded a 49 on the night.

"This was a good improvement from last night," head coach Doug Wokoun said. "Mike Matthews really stepped up on Senior Night and gave us a boost. He had a pretty good round and managed the course more like we knew he could. Chris had a much better round from the standpoint of executing shots. Gary was a little up and down but played most of the round well. We still have some things that need work, but we are doing more things right, and there is reason to be optimistic about the direction we are moving.

"Zach Hall and Aaron Whitlock both played well to lead the JV effort. We are starting to see the kind of play and competition that we were expecting earlier. For a variety of reasons it has taken time to see these improvements. We still have things in front of us and need to keep pushing to get better," Wokoun added.

The previous day the Clovers defeated Cascade 183-203, with Arnold earning medalist honors with a round of 39. Williams and Book followed with 47, Tomlinson shot a 50 and Jordan a 51. Matthews carded a 59.

Cloverdale will be back in action Thursday on the road at Martinsville at 4:30 p.m.
