City Police

Two unusual thefts were investigated Thursday by Greencastle City Police officers.

A newspaper box and USA Today newspapers were reportedly taken from East Walnut Street, just east of Vine Street early Thursday morning.

The box was checked at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday by Emma Baxter, who then reported that the entire box, including newspapers and change, was gone when she returned at 3:40 a.m. Thursday.

Officer Eric Vaughan investigated the theft at 4 a.m. but did not list a total value on the items taken.

At 9:15 p.m. Thursday, a drive-off incident was reported at the Gas American station at Round Barn and Indianapolis roads.

A female driver reportedly pumped $39.77 worth of gasoline and departed in a gold Kia SUV without paying. Officer Matt Huffman investigated,

Two arrests were also reported by city officers.

At 1:53 a.m. Friday, Ryan Kwech, 20, Cary, Ill., was arrested by Officer Huffman who observed Kwech and another subject reportedly wrestling around on the ground along Jackson Street.

Charged with illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor and disorderly conduct, Kwech was taken to Putnam County Jail.

The other suspect was not charged in the incident, police said.

At 10:40 a.m. Thursday, Christina Fiscus, 37, Cloverdale, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of prescription medication and possession of a controlled substance.

Sgt. Mike Hanlon stopped Fiscus' vehicle at Bloomington Street and Veterans Highway after observing it being driven erratically.

The police report indicated she nearly hit another vehicle head-on and jumped the curb when Sgt. Hanlon finally stopped her.

Initially taken to Putnam County Hospital by Operation Life ambulance, Fiscus was lodged in the Putnam County Jail at 2:24 p.m. Thursday.
