Hangar High

Wednesday, May 25, 2011
Steel framing of the Champion Properties hangar is under way at the Putnam County Airport on Greencastle's east side. Once complete, the hangar will house the Falcon 50 jet owned by NASCAR driver and Hoosier native Tony Stewart. Workers from GCC, Amo, are assembling the steel structure of the hangar, located north of the present hangars off Ballard Lane near the airport office. General contractor on the project is Doug Lawson of Chief Builders. Greencastle pilot Bill LaFoe, who lives just up the road from the airport, flies Stewart's plane, along with co-pilot Stephan Bradley of Plainfield. Although the plane is based here, Stewart "has never set foot on the property" at the local facility, airport officials noted.
