Local youths compete at Aquifina/MLB Pitch, Hit and Run Sectional

South Putnam Central Elementary second graders Kyle Cunningham, Evan Steffy, Alex Steffy and Macie Bumgardner participated in the Aquifina/M.L.B. Pitch, Hit and Run Sectional at Victory Field. Alex Steffy will go on to compete at the Stage 3 event at Chicago's U.S. Cellular Field Saturday.

South Putnam Central Elementary second graders Kyle Cunningham, Evan Steffy, Alex Steffy and Macie Bumgardner participated in the Aquifina/M.L.B. Pitch, Hit and Run Sectional (stage 2) competition Saturday June 4 at Victory Field in Indianapolis.

All four participants were local champions of the Boys and Girls 7/8 year old division and advanced to the sectional (stage 2) at Victory Field. Aquafina Pitch Hit and Run is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball for boys and girls ages 7-14.

Alex Steffy was the overall sectional champion at Victory Field and will now compete at the Team Championships (stage 3) in Chicago. Alex is one of 24 7/8 year olds who will compete at U.S. Cellular Field.

Participants have the opportunity to compete in four levels of competition including Locals, Sectionals, Team Championships (Stage 3 - Chicago) and the National Finals (Stage 4 - Phoenix) at the 2010 MLB All-Star Game.

Kyle is the son of Jeff and Kimberly Cunningham, Evan and Alex is the son/daughter of Jamie and Debbie Steffy and Macie is the daughter of Tony and Kristy Bumgardner.
