ROACHDALE -- The North Putnam Youth Baseball League celebrated another wonderful season. What started out as a cold stormy opening day ended with bright rays of sunshine at Clarence E. Steward Park in Bainbridge with ball players, fans, and local businesses cheering loud and proud for the Cougars.

At the microphone was Vice President Greg Lyons, announcing each player onto the field for the first time. All the players ran down third baseline with high fives to the Pizza Den crew and waving to all the fans in the stands.

The feature sponsor of the season this year is Pizza Den. Brenda and Danny Pierson, owners of the Pizza Den, have been in business for 17 years and active members of the community. Many non profit organizations have been touched by their generous philanthropic efforts throughout the years.

They have been an active sponsor for little league baseball for many years and we thank them for all of their support. Danny threw out the honorary first pitch of the season to Major League player Hayden Rudes.

The Pizza Den crew led the crowd in the traditional opening day sing-a-long of "Take Me Out To The Ballgame."

"We are thankful and very blessed to have such loyal and generous sponsors such as Pizza Den on board with our program. Our program is so much more than just playing baseball and we are thrilled with sponsors who have stuck by our program throughout the years," said President Tim Davis.

Additionally, the Pizza Den had a NPYBL fundraising night and presented a check to the league for $250. They have also awarded free personal pizza coupons for each North Putnam Cougar player who hit a home run over the fence this season, promoting the league moto of "A Home Run is Within Your Reach."

The day was complete with a good ole fashioned family cookout, home run derby, pie throwing, speed pitch with Roachdale Police on the radar and music by the North Putnam High School Pep Band.

The NPYBL would like to thank all the volunteers, sponsors, and families who made this celebration a success. Good luck to all the North Putnam Youth Baseball League players this season.
