Ada Marie Beechler Kallner

Ada Marie Kallner, 89, Frankfort, passed away Monday, June 13, 2011 at the home of her daughter Connie, where she had lived since September 2009.

She was born Feb. 14, 1922 in Home Place (now Allisonville), daughter of Lester Edward and Gladys (Mercer) Beechler. She attended schools in Broad Ripple and Frankfort.

She married Gordon Keith Kallner on Jan. 8, 1941 in Indianapolis and he preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 2009. They had 68 wonderful years together and now will be together for eternity.

She was a member of the Bedford Leatherwood Christian Church and a former Frankfort Mother's Club member. She was an excellent cook and an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed camping with her family and tending to her flower gardens. She was devoted to her husband and was his main caregiver during his long illness. She was also a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.

She worked at Campus Castle, Woolworth's and Mallory's in Frankfort in her younger days and several restaurants in Bedford, and retired in 2002 at the age of 80 after a 40-year career as a master head cook at several sororities at DePauw University in Greencastle. She and her husband lived in Greencastle from 1960 until 2005 when they returned to Frankfort.

She is survived by two sons Richard "Bud" Kallner of Frankfort and Ken (Vicki) Kallner of Greencastle; two daughters, Connie (Ron) Fausset of Frankfort and Chris (Butch) Barnett of Frankfort; one daughter-in-law, Christa Kallner of Frankfort; nine grandchildren, Greg (Tracy) Kallner of Bainbridge, David (Gwen) Kallner of Reelsville, Ashley Downing of Greencastle, Yolanda Kallner, Rick Evans, Bruce (Crystal) Evans, Lesley (Jon) Webb, all of Frankfort, Lindsay (Brad) Striegel of Fishers and Bobbie Kallner of Maine; 18 great-grandchildren with one on the way; three great-great-grandchildren; brother Donald E. Beechler of Indianapolis; two sisters, Delores (Jesse) Mattingly of Elizabethtown, Ky., and Eleanor Jenkins of Edgewater, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, sons Larry Allen Kallner in December 1941 and Gary Keith Kallner in May 2008, brothers Richard and Raymond Beechler and sisters Mary Welch Phelps and Jane Handlon.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Goodwin Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Amis of the Harmony Baptist Church in Greencastle officiating. Visitation will begin two hours prior to the services. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park.
