Janelle Huber set to conduct Brazil Concert Band Sunday

BRAZIL -- The Brazil Concert Band, under the direction of Janelle R. Huber, will present "Peaches and Cream" at 8 p.m. Sunday, June 26 at the Forest Park Bandshell, rain or shine.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Huber is a senior instrumental music education major at the School of Music at Indiana State University. She is the 2011 recipient of the Presser Scholarship and a winner of the 2011 ISU Concerto Competition.

A member of Pi Kappa Lambda, she is piccolo chair in the ISU Wind Orchestra and is piccolo-third flute in the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra. She also performs with the ISU Symphony Orchestra.

Huber has programmed the overture "Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna" by von Suppe and arranged by Henry Fillmore along with Fillmore's "His Honor March."

Four genres of music by John Philip Sousa include the waltz "The Reine De La Mer," a fox trot, "Peaches and Cream," a march, "The Daughters of Texas," and his arrangement of the English folk tune "Country Gardens" by his friend, Percy Grainger.

Recognizing the sesquicentennial of the Civil War, the band will perform "Freischutz Quickstep" by Civil War bandleader Claudio Grafulla.

Also on the play list are "Florentiner March" by Julius Fucik, "Amazing Grace" arranged by Frank Ticheli and from Broadway, "Selections From Chicago" by John Kander and arranged by Ted Ricketts.
