City Police

A 27-year-old Minnesota man was cited by Greencastle City Police for reckless possession of paraphernalia Wednesday night at the Walmart supercenter on Indianapolis Road.

Talon Ness, White Bear Lake, was cited by Officer Nick Eastham at 10:30 p.m.

One recent arrest was also reported by city officers.

-- At 1:58 a.m. Saturday, Bethany Johnson, 21, Indianapolis, was arrested by Capt. Charles Inman on a warrant at the College Inn on Bloomington Street.

Six recent traffic accidents were reported by GPD officers.

-- At 4:37 p.m. Tuesday, a two-car accident at North Jackson and New York streets resulted in $5,000-$10,000 damage.

Alisa McCollough, 29, Greencastle, was reportedly northbound on Jackson Street, driving a 2007 Pontiac G6, when a 1998 Audi, driven by Penny Stone, 47, Greencastle, entered the roadway from New York Street.

Stone was attempting to go northbound on Jackson Street when the collision occurred, Officer Darrel Bunten reported.

-- At 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, a two-vehicle accident occurred at 10th Street and Indianapolis Road that resulted in a passenger later going to Putnam County Hospital.

Wendell Hurst, 79, Greencastle, was southbound on 10th Street, driving a 2001 Dodge Neon, Officer Bunten reported, when a 2003 Ford F-150, driven by Kenneth Heagy Jr., 46, Cloverdale, exited the west access to Putnam Plaza and a collision occurred.

Police said Hurst's wife Norma was later taken via private vehicle to PCH with minor injury resulting from the crash.

Total damage was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

-- At 9:26 p.m. Monday, a two-vehicle accident was reported at Washington and Arlington streets, resulting in an estimated $5,000-$10,000 damage.

Office Eastham said Brett Burham, 20, Greencastle, was westbound on Washington Street, driving a 1989 Chervrolet 1500 truck, when a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by Betty Phillips, 15, Greencastle, reportedly pulled into his path from Arlington Street.

-- At 12:09 p.m. July 8, an accident was reported on East Seminary Street, 100 feet west of Wood Street.

Sgt. Chris Jones reported that Michael Lawrence, 46, Greencastle, was westbound, driving a 2008 Toyota Tundra, when a compact car with a young male driver veered into his path.

Lawrence said he was forced to swerve and struck a parked 2001 Honda Accord, owned by Kevin Moore, Greencastle. Impact shoved the Moore car into a Cinergy pole, resulting in total damage of $5,000-$10,000.

-- At 7:52 a.m. July 4, a one-vehicle mishap was reported on West Liberty Street as Alan Sparks, 51, Greencastle, was eastbound, driving a 1997 Ford F-150 truck. His air bag reportedly deployed, causing Sparks to lose control of the truck, which struck a Duke Energy pole.

Total damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000 by Sgt. Terry Eastham.

-- At 1:50 p.m. July 1, the TSC storage area at Putnam Plaza was the scene of a two-vehicle accident that resulted in $1,000-$2,500 damage.

Officer Bunten reported that Thomas Averill, 42, Center Point, was backing a 1983 GMC Sierra from a parking space near the storage area in the center of the lot when the truck struck a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by Carrie Nichols, 36, Greencastle. Nichols was northbound in the lot, approaching the fenced storage area.

City Fire

July 12, 4:38 p.m.: Motor vehicle accident at 600 N. Jackson St. Cleaned up fluids and controlled traffic. Cleared 5:19 p.m.

July 12, 10:19 p.m.: Medical assist on SR 240. GPD found an unresponsive passenger on a traffic stop. Cleared 1040 p.m.

July 13, 2:34 p.m.: Lift assist at 89 Autumn Glen Drive. Cleared 2:53 p.m.

July 13, 7:12 p.m.: Assisted Operation Life at 2789 E. SR 240. Cleared 7:27 p.m.

July 13, 10:54 p.m.: Alarm due to cooking at 315 E. Hanna St. Cleared 11:07 p.m.

July 14, 9:51 a.m.: Assisted Reelsville Fire Department with a tire fire behind old Kendall's garage at U.S. 40 and Manhattan Rod.
