Shop with a cop goes back to school

Greencastle City Police Capt. Charles Inman helps a little girl find school supplies and clothes Wednesday morning. Inman and other officers were a part of the 13th annual Shop with a Cop event at the local Walmart store.

Twenty officers from the Fraternal Order of Police took children in need of back-to-school supplies and clothes shopping Wednesday morning.

The officers represented the Greencastle Police Department, the Indiana State Excise Police, the Cloverdale Police Department, the Putnam County Sheriff's Department, DePauw Public Safety and the Indianapolis Airport Police.

"The event is all about helping out these children and having positive interaction between the children and uniformed officers," Corporal Jerrod Baugh of the Indiana Excise Police said.

The children are selected by recommendation from school counselors from all four Putnam County school corporations.

Funds are raised by calling Putnam County citizens and businesses who support the FOP organization.

This year the event helped more than 30 children, and intentions are to continue the program for years to come.
