Tiger Cubs edge Cadets on the course

Friday, August 12, 2011

CLAYTON -- The Greencastle girls' golf team edged out Cascade 202-206 Thursday.

Jessie Bennett led the Tiger Cubs with a 46, with Katie Hedge shooting a 47. Liz Johnson carded a 52, Kenzie St. Marie shot a 57 and Lauren Bridgewater shot a 64. Kourtnee Vickery ended the day with a 72.

"This was an important win over one over one of the conference favorites on their course," GHS head coach Brad Kingma said. "Jessie, Liz and Lauren each hit their season low today. Their improvement has been happening real fast, so its exciting to see what they can do the rest of the season as there are still some areas of their game that are pretty weak and can be improved on with hard work.

"Katie has been struggling, mostly with the putter, but after a mishit off the first tee, her ball striking improved over some earlier rounds," he added.

Cascade's Jessica Smyth was the medalist on the day after shooting a 37.
